Citerne Beirut

Citerne Beirut is a unique performing arts venue, designed to keep up with new contemporary innovations and artistic creations. It is a flexible and mobile structure that could be reconfigured according to the artistic events and creations.

It could be seen as a new approach to performance spaces and will surely influence our perception of artistic and cultural events. Such a space does not exist in Lebanon or any other country. It aimed at positioning Lebanon on the international performing arts scene and make visible the strength and originality of its artists.

The first international dancehouse in the Arab World

Citerne Beirut allowed more visibility, collaboration, networking and exchange for artists on a local and international level. BIPOD has proved its relevance as a major artistic and cultural event in Beirut. Its solid and excellent reputation raised international curiosity about the dance scene in the region and promoted Beirut to be the center of contemporary Dance in the Arab World. The festival has taken a special significance in relation to the wide public interest, with the artistic quality of its program, the ability to invite very well known international companies performing for the first time in the region, the outreach to remote cities, towns, and other disadvantaged communities, the strong motivation for young artists, and the positive atmosphere it creates every year in the capital.

‘Citerne Beirut’ was supposed to set up a firm ground for the establishment of an interactive contemporary performing arts scene and to open a new horizon for local and regional artists, allowing international cooperation, mobility, and cultural interaction.
