Omar Rajeh founded Maqamat in 2002 as a contemproary dance company and his ambition was to create a space for innovation, experimentation and continuous development of new ideas and concepts of dance and 'the body'.

He early realized that there is no separation between what is needed on an artistic and cultural level from the need to change regarding the political and scoial realities. The company was engaged and totally immersed in the artistic and creative as ‘statments’ for direct political and social productivity, creativity, modernization, and free-expression.
