Mia Habis
Mia Habis is a dancer and co-artistic director of Maqamat.
Since 2019, she has been based in Lyon, France, where she co-directs the company alongside Omar Rajeh, while overseeing its international management, production, and dissemination.
Her artistic training includes more than twenty-eight years of classical ballet, complemented by contemporary dance, martial arts, acting, and singing. She also holds a degree in French Literature from Université Saint-Joseph and the Sorbonne Paris IV, and a Master’s in Marketing and Advertising from the École Supérieure de Publicité and the IAA in Paris.
After working in advertising, copywriting, teaching, and event management, Mia joined Maqamat in 2008 as a dancer and teacher. She gradually expanded her role to include the development of artistic concepts for the company’s projects, as well as new communication strategies that helped broaden audiences and deepen institutional collaborations.
In 2015, she was appointed co-Artistic Director of BIPOD – Beirut International Platform of Dance and Moultaqa Leymoun, two initiatives founded by Omar Rajeh. BIPOD has since become a key international meeting point for contemporary dance, while Moultaqa Leymoun focuses on supporting Arab choreographers in creating and presenting their work.
Together with Rajeh, she also co-founded Citerne Beirut in Lebanon and the digital platform Citerne.live, extending their work to new spaces for dance and dialogue. Alongside these roles, Mia continues to dance and contribute artistically to the company’s creations.
