“Thiersch´s choreography is visually powerful, brilliantly composed anarchy." (Rheinische Post November 2013)
Corps Étrangers (80 minutes)
Stephanie Thiersch´s new production literally leaves the ground and confronts contemporary dance with new circus. A German-French collective of dancers, acrobats and ropes causes in "Corps Étrangers" our modern conception of the world to sway: What is human, animal, plant, creature, object, where does the game end, where does the danger begin...? The extremely physical and highly visual production interweaves multi-layer soundscapes with animal studies, mythical rituals and giddy trance dances. “Corps Étrangers” establishes a cosmos, both poetic and bizarre that is beyond distinct attribution.
Stephanie Thiersch studied Dance and later Media Arts at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne. "Three acrobats and two dancers form an ensemble that designs virtuosic heterogenous bodies between human and animal, subject and object. [...]
Gravitation becomes a plaything, negotiated by power and body control.”
(Esther Boldt, tanz 12/2013)
"Thiersch constructs profound scenes, reveals the circus of evolution as a nouveau cirque masquerade between totem and taboo, travesty and animism. […] The best moments mark an alternative draft to the disenchantment of the world, using a magic that is only inherent to genuine art. How pleasant it was to have seen something like it was mirrored by the long, enthusiastic applause that followed 90 intensive and strong minutes."
(Steffen Georgi, Leipziger Volkszeitung, Dec. 7th 2013)
